Awareness Panel on Snoring and Sleep Apnea
Organized in cooperation with Bornova Municipality and ENTO Ear, Nose and Throat Surgical Medical Center, the panel titled “Snoring Is Not Your Destiny” will comprehensively address snoring and sleep apnea, conditions that are widespread in society but often neglected.
The panel aims to raise awareness about snoring and sleep apnea, which are common health problems yet frequently underestimated. During the event, specialists will discuss various aspects of these conditions, from diagnosis to treatment. The event is free of charge, offering participants the opportunity to learn about current treatment methods and ask experts their questions directly.
The panel will take place on Thursday, June 18, at 2:00 PM at Uğur Mumcu Culture and Arts Center. Participants will have the opportunity to gain comprehensive information about the causes of snoring and sleep apnea, diagnostic methods, treatment options, and potential health complications that may arise if these conditions are left untreated.
Raising Public Awareness
Experts in their respective fields will share insights based on the latest scientific findings. Participants will also have the chance to ask questions directly to the specialists. The event aims to increase public awareness about snoring and sleep apnea while providing valuable information on maintaining healthy sleep and quality of life. Officials from Bornova Municipality and ENTO Surgical Medical Center invite all interested citizens to attend the panel.
Program Schedule
The first speaker will be Dr. Ümit Filiz, an Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist from ENTO Ear, Nose and Throat Surgical Medical Center. In his presentation titled “What Is Snoring? What Is Sleep Apnea?”, he will explain the basic characteristics and symptoms of these conditions.
The next speaker will be Prof. Dr. Zeynep Zeren Uçar, Board Member of İzmir Faculty of Medicine at the University of Health Sciences, Founder and Director of the Sleep Disorders Clinic, and President of the Turkish Sleep Medicine Society. Prof. Dr. Uçar will discuss the health problems and complications that may develop if snoring and sleep apnea are left untreated. She will also explain polysomnography (sleep testing), an important diagnostic tool for sleep disorders, and describe when this test is recommended.
Prosthodontist Dr. Bilkay Karaman will address oral appliances used in the treatment of snoring and sleep apnea, as well as the role of dentistry in the treatment process.
Later in the panel, Dr. Ümit Filiz will evaluate the role of Ear, Nose and Throat specialists in the treatment of snoring and sleep apnea.
In the final presentation, Prof. Dr. Zeynep Zeren Uçar will provide information about treatment methods involving respiratory support devices known as CPAP/PAP.
