Specialist in Ear, Nose, and Throat Diseases, Op. Dr. Sezgin Bekdemir, from the Private Ento Ear, Nose, and Throat Surgery Medical Center, stated that tonsillitis is a health problem that is particularly common in children and seriously affects their quality of life.

Explaining that this disease, which occurs when the tonsils located on either side of the throat become infected due to viruses or bacteria, manifests itself with sore throat, difficulty swallowing, high fever, fatigue, and swelling in the neck lymph nodes, Bekdemir said, "Acute tonsillitis can usually be cured with medical treatment within 7-10 days; chronic tonsillitis, with its recurrent nature, can lead to serious problems in the long term."

DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT PROCESS

Stating that the diagnosis is made based on the patient's complaints, physical examination, and necessary tests, Bekdemir said, "Supportive treatments are sufficient for viral infections, while antibiotics are used for bacterial infections. However, in cases of frequent recurrence, complications, or tonsils enlarging to the point of obstructing breathing, surgical intervention becomes necessary," he said.
